Robinson Shakespeare Company-AmeriCorps Internship

  • A style of teaching that focuses on adapting existing lesson plans, and finding a way to get it up on its feet! Allowing for students with different learning styles to better grasp what they are already learning in class!

  • An internationally recognized Shakespeare program for students grades 6th-12th, under the direction of Christy Burgess. These students OWN Shakespeare, it belongs to them and they show it through one recital, two full length shows, and various events throughout the year!

  • A Shakespeare program based in South Bend for students grades 3rd-5th, under the direction of Christy Burgess. We start earl on our mission to nurture creativiy, learn to work as an ensemble, and create more well rounded human beings!

South Bend Civic Theatre Spring Break Camp

Click here to see a portfolio of my work with the SBCT!

  • One of the first things we did with the students was teaching them how to make the puppets themselves! Our primary materials were black construction or foam paper, light gels, and small wooden dowel rods!

  • We spent a lot of time rehearsing the way we use our puppets, be they pieces of the shadow set or characters! We also instilled in them how to best avoid your body unintentionally showing on the shadow screen!

  • We also tried to emphasize a sense of community and ensemble with our students! As a civic theater it is important to emphasize that the students can rely not just on us, but also on each other when they need to!

Saint Mary’s College-Props Design Guest Artist

Click here to see a portfolio of my work at SMC!

  • What does it look like to design props for a production? Where does it start? What all must you do before creating and pulling from stock?

  • Once the aesthetic is decided and a budget is established, how do you design with that look in mind? How do you balance making vs. buying? How do you create?

  • What happens if your budget is very small? Or almost nonexistent? How do you pull from and alter existing stock to best fit the show? What if its a new work?
